Eight-Episode Historical Drama

"Clasina Maria Hoornik (Sien) has been erased from the canvas of Van Gogh's life, simply because she was a lowly prostitute. Yet Van Gogh loved her and wanted to marry her. But the sanctimonious Bourgeoise of 19th century Europe wouldn't stand for that. This drama series attempts to right that wrong by telling Sien's story - a story of love and loss - of desire and despair - of beauty and unbearable sacrifice - in fact, the greatest love story NEVER told."

Feature Film:
Based on the bestselling memoir
by Kate Elysia

LOGLINE:

The story of one girl's horrendous experiences of being trafficked - and recovering from the horror.

SYNOPSIS:

When the man was found not guilty, it was very hard to take. I was heartbroken. I wanted to say, if it didn’t happen, then why do I remember it? Why do I remember shouting the word “stop!” Why do I remember his tongue down my throat? Why do I remember the evil in his eyes? Why do I remember his hands invading my body? Why do I remember the smell of him – the disgusting sounds he made when he was thrusting inside me? If it didn’t happen, why was I crying? Why did I try to get away? Why did I have cuts and bruises and horrible bite marks on my breasts and face? If it didn’t happen, why am I afraid and hurt and feeling defiled? If it didn’t happen, why am I the one with the nightmares and the horrible memory of it. If it didn’t happen, take it out of my head! In court, they said he never met me – then they said he must have met me somewhere else, other than the place where he raped me – maybe at college? But he wasn’t at college, at least not when I was there. He worked in a bar – they said I could have seen him there – that’s how I picked him out in the ID parade. He said, “I’m not saying it didn’t happen, I’m saying it wasn’t me”. But he was saying it didn’t happen. And it was him – I remember him, how could I forget him after .... They said I had a vendetta against him – why would I, if we’d never met? They said I might have met him at a party – they said everything they could to put doubts into the minds of the jury. They succeeded. But if it never happened, please take it out of my head. I don’t want to remember it. It haunts me!

________________________________

I was eighteen the first time I was raped. I was eighteen when I was serially and gang raped. I was eighteen when I was trafficked and given to many men, sometimes as many as ten in one night. It’s much harder for girls of my age to prove sexual abuse. A man who has sex with an under-age girl automatically commits a crime, whether it’s consensual or not. A man who rapes an eighteen-year-old will always say it was consensual and the burden of proof lies with the girl. We’re not believed. We’re degraded in court. We’re heartbroken. Some, like me, are survivors. For others there’s no hope and they end up as prostitutes, addicted to hard drugs. I was lucky, throughout my ordeal, I thought of my mother. It was her image in my mind that saved me – otherwise I’d be dead now. This is for the heartbroken. And their mothers.
